In my opinion, one of the keys to a healthy marriage or long-term relationship is growing together as a team while planning for and sharing the same goals.
One way my husband and I manage some of the challenges we face is by reminding one another that we are both on “Team Walter.” It’s become a sort of ”battle cry” whenever we are dealing with a challenge – work stress, family issues, finances…you name it. All these stresses can be weathered by reminding each other that we are on the same team, we have each other’s back and we will get through it together. Sum it up by declaring, “Team (Last Name)” while discussing these challenges….plus it breaks the tension and cracks us up!
This team-centric attitude also helps in planning for and deciding on shared goals for the future. It’s helpful to focus on what’s good for the team, instead of just what’s good for “me”. This outlook also works well if you have children in the mix…just more players on the team.
Having a shared mantra or battle cry goes all long way to remind each other that you are united and not alone…it connects us together.
Do you have a relationship battle cry? A word or phase that helps to cement your solidarity? Tell me about it…

While it might seem odd to others, we tend to say, “You suck,” at the end of a discussion. It lightens the mood, makes us laugh, and reminds us that we’re not perfect, but we are in this together. It’s our shorthand for saying, “I love you unconditionally.”
